Die Insel Fuerteventura ist mit einer Gesamtfläche von 1658 Quadratkilometern die zweitgrößte der Kanarischen Inseln.
Sie ist Teil einer mehr als 200 km langen Linie, die bei der kleinen Insel Alegranza nördlich von Lanzarote ihren Ursprung hat, sich bis ca.
20 km südlich von Punta de Jandía verlängert und so die größte kontinentale Plattform der Kanarischen Inseln bildet.
